High Farms is a family farm devoted to using sustainable small-scale agricultural practices. In stark contrast to industrial production the farming methods we use improve the land and environment by deepening topsoil and building long term soil fertility while producing food that is amazing to eat and healthy for the body and mind.
We sell our farm products at several farmers markets as well as through our CSA membership program.
Animals
We focus on Heritage breeds and raise all animals outdoors using rotational grazing techniques. We are producing Heritage Poulet Rouge chicken, Bourbon Red Turkey, forest raised Berkshire pork, and grass fed Devon beef. All of the breeds we raise are chosen for superior table quality. They are also hardy in outdoor ranging conditions, and we feel that it is important to perpetuate these heirloom breeds.
The chickens are moved through fresh pasture and the turkeys range freely. They eat grass as well as a vegetarian feed which is locally produced (no drugs, chemicals, added hormones or antibiotics). We rotate the pigs through woodland and pasture where they are able to root, eat grass, and express their natural pig inclinations. The beef herd is 100% grass fed and constantly moved to new grass.
Vegetables
We are producing many varieties of vegetables. Most of them are Heirlooms whose value in regional adaptation and flavor puts them far above most of the common hybrids. We only use gardening methods that improve the life of the soil. We never use synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. The methods we use are beyond organic requirements.
